New York City - I'm luvin it, luvin it, luvin it!!

All I would say to you if you are thinking of going to NYC is to stop thinking and get booked to go.

I have visited this grand city twice, on very differing holidays. Firstly in 1996 i took my then girlfriend(now my wife) which was great but i seen a bit to much of the shops, although during this visit I visited the top floor of the World Trade Centre which is very sobering and poignant to look back upon.

Secondly, and the visit i will concentrate on was in October 2003 with 3 of my good mates, yeh a real lads holiday.

Flights & Accomodation

We managed to secure a very resonable fare for our flights, Edinburgh - JFK via Dublin with Aer Lingus cost us £262 sterling through Opodo.

We decided that we may aswell make the most of our trip so we decided we would need a week to do everything we wanted to do(aswell as eat everything we wanted to eat, drink everything we wanted to drink and buy everything we wanted to buy).

Next up we discovered it was'nt exactly the cheapest place to stay in the world, we did'nt really want to youth hostel it. We discovered the Chelsea Star Hotel using the net and it fitted the bill to a tea, 4 of us sharing one big room with en suite facilities(see accom tips for more info) and right across the road from the world famous Madison Square Garden.

Safe as Houses

One thing i would say about being in Manhattan is that i never once felt unsafe, there seems to be a very high visual Police presence which is reassuring, OK we were not walking down dark streets in the middle of the night but that would just be daft to do that, anyplace not just NYC.
Fuzzy Times Square.

Pros:"Too many to mention, just go."
Cons:"not alot of these i can think of to be honest, a few homeless maybe."
In A Nutshell:"Everything you expect and more!"

The old Port Authority building (which has its corners at 15-16 St/8-9 Av) looks much better ;-)

Have you ever seen a photo of this building before it was slipcovered with "steel erection" gift-wrap? Probably not; present appearance (inside and out) is merely plain by comparison.
