Scotlands Largest City

Buchanan Street
Lying towards the west coast of Scotland approx 40 miles from Edinburgh is Scotlands largest city Glasgow, with a population of 577,000.

More commonly refered to as Glesga by Glaswegians, who in turn are known as 'Weegies' by other Scots (Scots from the Highlands are known as Teuchters by the Weegies).

Often seen as a gritty, grey industrial city Glasgow is infact more often visited by myself than its more glamorous counterpart Edinburgh. Less touristy, thus less expensive and with a better array of shops :-)

Travis 'n' Franz

Glasgow has for a long time spawned many a successful rock band, you just gotta check out this list. Wet Wet Wet, Simple Minds, Del Amitri, Deacon Blue, Teenage Fan Club.

Two of my favourite bands come from Glasgow, they being Travis and Franz Ferdinand.

If you are able to take in a gig at the world famous Barrowlands(the Barras) whilst in Glasgow then i would strongly advise you to do so. Recently I have seen Travis and Embrace here and the atmosphere is very lively and unique.

Wave Aid Concert

I attended this concert at the SECC recently. Loads of cash was made for the Tsunami appeal as Scotlands finest bands played to 10,000 people.

Travis, Franz Ferdinand, Idlewild, Deacon Blue, Texas and more got the crowd bouncing. Highlight of the night came at the end as Gary Lightbody, lead singer with Snow Patrol, sang an accoustic version of their anthemic 'Run'.
