Black and White Town.

Well it was just a day trip to Newcastle that i went on, purpose to see the famous Toon Army play in the Premiership.

Newcastle United, affectionately known as the Toon Army by their hoardes of loyal fans, play their home games at St James Park.

Me and my mate managed to bag a pair of usually hard to come by tickets by phoning the ticket office on the day they went on public sale. Most of the 52,000 capacity is taken up by season ticket holders making the amount of tickets avaiable to the general public pretty limited.

Train from my home town of Perth to Newcastle only takes 3 hours with a quick change at Edinburgh.

A Few Beers?

As is de rigour when going to a football (soccer if you must) we managed to visit a few of the local hostelries to sample the atmosphere and mix with the locals. You won't find any trouble in this neck of the woods, no safety worries at all. The supporters are a good natured bunch most of the time, maybe apart from when their team is performing badly.

Match Day

Newcastle were playing Charlton the day we visited, Charlton were well represented by about 2,000 travelling fans, not bad considering the distance.

The result was a poor one for Newcastle, a 1-1 draw, the locals were far from impressed with this and showed their disgust throughout, booing their team off on the final whistle.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A more football orientated City you will struggle to find.
  • Cons:Maybe not the prettiest of places, its the North of England afterall.
  • In a nutshell:Football Crazy Black and White Town.
