Every town seems to be the capital of something in Scotland and so does Fort William. It carries the title capital of Lochaber, a rather small but beautiful area of the West Highlands...
Fort William's location on the A82 between Glasgow and Inverness makes it one of the most visited towns in Scotland. Especially in summer it is bursting with tourists and has the shops to prove it...
Above the town and its suburbs towers Ben Nevis, 1347 metres high, and snow-topped most of the year. Many places in town have names referring to it's most famous citizen.
The best way to see the top of the Ben is not in Fort William, though. Neighbouring Corpach offer the best views on the summint and is also quite a pleasant little village...
Fort William is infamous for it's weather! In late autumn it never seems to stop raining and non-cloudy pictures are impossible at times. But for every cloudy day there is a sunny one and you can value these even more!
- Pros:Great location, surrounding area...
- Cons:The town itself...
- In a nutshell:Rather ugly highland town with a pleasant High Street and a lot of pubs to stay and relax before heading off to the nicer places around.

Don't be put off by the shabby exterior. Went here for sandwich lunch on Saturday. Delicious! Helpful, friendly waitress, not common in Scotland!! (She was English!) Will definitely go back.
Very helpful tips on Fort William. I'd love to go climbing or hiking in this area.
Some good info here. We're off to Mull this week.
Nice rainbow picture. Good tips on all pages.
I'm actually heading to Fort William next week to visit the family. I hope there are a few sunny days! Great tips and great picture of the Alexandria and the church. I never made it up the Ben myself. Frank
