| Coit Tower, in San Francisco, August 2005 |
I first had an opportunity to visit San Francisco in August 2005, when in the neighbourhood visiting a friend who lives in Palo Alto, and interviewing for the position which eventually brought me to Cupertino. I stayed with my friend in Palo Alto for the weekend, and we took the train (Caltrain) one day into town.
My legs are still recovering, even now. The hills are very steep (as advertised). We walked up to Coit Tower, which offers great views of the Bay, and up Lombard Street, which has the "most winding street in the world" or some such nickname. Both were challenging hikes. We also ate in Chinatown, stopped by the Waterfront, and took pictures of Alcatraz. A lot of fun...and clearly I need to do hiking like that more often! |
