| Cours Mirabeau, Aix-en-Provence |
When we made the schedule for our 2003 vacation in southern France, we had planned to visit Aix as a day trip from Marseille. However, knowledge of an oncoming one day public strike made us change our plans, moving up the day trip by a couple of days, from Arles instead. The rail route from Arles to Aix runs right through Marseille, of course. Aix-en-Provence is a beautiful town, known as the city of the thousand fountains. (Would I make this up?) Some of the fountains are quite striking, as is much of the architecture. Cezanne, Aix's "most famous son", died here in 1906. |
