This was one of the many highlights of our visit. Being an engineerint type, I really was blown away by its sheer size. At night, they put on an impressive light show. If you're afraid of heights, don't take the stairs back down, you may get freaked out by all that open air below you.

I'd recommend taking the metro to the Arc de Triomphe, and then walking down the Champs Elysees towards Place de la Concorde and the Louvre. It's a beautiful walk.

Place de la Concorde is at the end of the Champs Elysees. It has a number of statues, a fountain, and l'Obelisque. When we were visiting in 2001, there was a Ferris Wheel present.

Notre Dame is a fully functioning church still, so be mindful when touring. You can pay to climb the stairs to the top, to see the gargoyles and the square below. Be careful, the staircase is narrow and still the original and now-worn stone. The day we climbed, it had rained earlier, and the staircase was a little slippery from trodden-in water.

A statue in honour of Charlemagne, king of France, is in the square outside Notre Dame. In the photo, it's the statue of the man on horseback, on the left side (close to the Seine).
