Paris is an ancient city, dating back to the Roman times. Since those times, it has been a Royal city, a city of Enlightenment, a city of Revolution, an Imperial capital, a city under siege, a city occupied, a city liberated, the City of Lights, the City of Love, and a city of art and architecture. The marks of all these things are visible upon Paris, from the old royal residences and imperial spoils (like l'Obelisque, seen in the photo), to the artists lining the Seine and in Montmartre, to the art in the Louvre, to the Eternal Flame burning in memory of the Holocaust near Notre Dame, to the Eiffel Tower, and to the model of the Statue of Liberty, lying in wait for you on the Seine. Paris has been one of the focal points of European civilization for a long time now, and there is much to see here...much more than I have even suggested, or glimpsed myself. |

Paris, April & May 2001 We first visited Paris in May 2001 as a big part of our first European vacation. We stayed near the Eiffel Tower, and almost instantly fell in love with the neighbourhood, and the city as a whole. |
