Salamanca is unique | Major Square with scultures of Manolo Valdés |
The first time that I went to Salamanca, I felt in love with this city.
This past November I had the opportunity to visit again along with my partner who got a good recommendation from one of his friends. In two weeks I get organized myself for this weekend trip into the heart of Salamanca, wow! what a experience we had and how much we enjoyed the time there!
The yellow-blend to iron colour of the stones are typical from this city and the facades look great within the geometrical designs of some buildings fronts. Besides, the old city looks clean and safe, even at night.
The Major Square is the neural meeting point of Salamanca, with one of the most beautiful squares in Spain. Although Salamanca is well known outside Spain because its Old Catholic University (Universidad Pontífica de Salamanca) where many literate people have stopped by at some point of the history to teach and study. This University is equate with Oxford University, which brings more tourism to this beautiful town.
If you ever have the chance to stop by or make a weekend trip, do not hesitate in make it happens, you will fulfill yourself with joy and good taste. |
| | The story behind a "Vítor" A Vítor Salamantino is a text wrote directly on the facade of a building in honour of great achievement.
It is been said, that long time ago when someone was getting a PhD with A level (as a great achievement) at the University of Salamanca, this person was getting three days of celebration in which one of those days was paying for a bullfighting for the people living in the village and with the blood of the bull killed, and the mix of it with resin, the new Doctor could write his name with the sign of the VÍTOR plus a "C" or "half moon" in the facade of the building he wanted.
Nowadays, there is not anymore the tradition of the bullfighting but there is still the possibility of write your name when you got the great achievement; in red paint colour but only in certain buildings and in a smaller size. |
| Looking for the famous frog |
| | There is a famous frog in Salamanca There is always people looking for the frog in the facade of the University of Salamanca... lots of tourists stop in front of the front of this building looking for it. However it is a little bit difficult because the frog is small and there are a lot of elements that hide it at first sight.
The tradition says that once that you are in Salamanca, you need to find the frog because this will bring you GOOD LUCK (specially to the students).
*Note: I did not place a closer photo in order to you to find the frog by yourselves. GOODLUCK ;) |
