Vespa exhaust and sewage
Firenze was not one of our favorite destinations on this trip. We weren't fair to Firenze- we only had one day to spare between our primary destinations of rural Tuscany and Venezia which was not enough time to do anything more than get a "taste" of the city. In addition, Alice and Eli were feeling subpar and it was a hot and humid day. We came from Pienza where the air was suffused with honeysuckle and arrived in Firenze to the odors of Vespa exhaust, urine, trash and sewage.
On the positive side, we had 2 excellent meals (reviews below), enjoyed visits to Santa Croce and the Uffizzi and had a very nice evening walk over to the Duomo. Our hotel accomodation was excellent (see the tip below) and we were finally reunited with our luggage!
- Pros:art lovers paradise
- Cons:it stinks! not the best destination for kids.
- In a nutshell:I'm sure it is lovely in the spring and fall (and smells better!)
