Rhodes Town

by Custodyspice - last update: May 23, 2004

Rhodes Town lies on the northern tip of the island. It is made up of two parts, the old town and new town. The old town is located within the medieval fortress walls. A labyrinth of narrow streets full of small shops and cafes.
The new part has shops, restaurants and boutiques which lead to the harbour. The entrance to the Mandraki harbour is thought to be where the Colussus of Rhodes once stood. It was rocked by an earthquake 56 years after it was erected in 293 BC. One of the seven wonders of the world, it was supposedly made of bronze, and when it fell and smashed to the floor the pieces lay on the harbour for centuries. Now at the entrance stands a statue of a deer and a stag.
being helped out of a bar...once again
Lesson on this holiday? Do not fall asleep in the sun. A sunburnt face is not a laughing matter. The locals told me to put natural yoghurt on my face as this would bring the 'puffiness' down, and reduce my face to its normal proportions. Which was fine, until some kids mucking around near the pool ran around the corner where I was trying to be discreet, took one look at me, screamed and ran off to their parents.
