The walk up to Kawkaban was long and ardous. Still it was worth it. Kawkaban is a fortified citadel and very popular with Yemeni families and tourists. The views from the top are breathtaking and the buildings - although most are falling apart - have some very interesting intricacies such as the inscription above written in an ancient language.

The high cliffs at the edge of the city offered as much protection as the high walls on the other side.

Hello Peter! What interesting pages about Yemen! I am impressed and would love to go there one day too. I've got a friend who has lived in Sanaa for about 20 years and who has asked me to visit her many, many times.
