Getting TO/AROUND: Aviemore is the gateway to the wilderness and beauty of the Cairngorms National Park - because of its great transport links.
Aviemore is in the broad wooded valley of the River Spey which is the only eastern gap through the Highlands and so has road and rail passing by beneath the rocky crag called Craigellachie - squeezing through as the mighty River meanders close to the slope.
So the main route north - from Edinburgh and Glasgow is the A9 road and Aviemore is a vital resting point on route. This means car, hitch, and coach is easy.

The train is great, from all Scotland's Cities to Inverness, passing through Aviemore (with a beautiful Victorian Station and a separate Steam Railway!)

There are 4 airports from 1 - 3 hours away from Aviemore: Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, plus Glasgow Prestwick a bit further south.
Ryanair and Easyjet are now offering ridiculously cheap flights from London and other European Cities - and other companies are having to compete - so now is the time to take short breaks north!!!
