12 Figures on the Millenium Clock - Edinburgh

12 Figures on the Millenium Clock

The Millenium Clock - Royal Museum - Every Hour Art & Culture Review

On the hour this amazing giant clock comes to life amidst a cacophany of sounds, wirring and with every cog and gadgit moving! It last for a good 5 minutes, enough time to attract a big crown, enthralled!

Its quite amazing, for all its clever intricacy, but also, when you look in more detail, it is quite gruesome. Look at these figurines that rotate.

If you are in the vicinity - and you should be - have a look. Its on the ground floor, under the glass roof.

Old Golf Bar - Refurbished - by Bruntsfield Links - Edinburgh

Old Golf Bar - Refurbished - by Bruntsfield Links

Golf and Good Beer - Bruntsfield Links !! Eating / Drinking Review

This delightful bar is beside the Bruntsfield Links and The Meadows - a wonderful parkland which makes Edinburgh special.

You can play golf on the mini course here - many do.

The bar is lovely inside - like so many bars in Edinburgh. I'm not showing favouritism.

(Notice the flames at the door?)

Edinburgh Castle - A Mighty Power Base - Edinburgh

Edinburgh Castle - A Mighty Power Base

HISTORY - Bite Sized ... Stewart Dynasty

1424 AD, James I returns from England.
With new found confidence and spending power he sets about demonstrating the power of the Stewart Kings:
Linlithgow Palace, the great carthusian monastry at Perth and great halls in Edinburgh and Stirling Castles, creating palaces within, completed by James IV (1488-1513).
A navel race with England results in the building of the "Michael", half as big again as the English warship, "Mary Rose".

Mary Queen of Scots (1542-67)
James VI (1567-1625)

All part of the Stewart Dynasty.

More was spent on running the royal households than in capital expenditure on building projects. They were no longer warlords but Courtiers.

This was followed by the Reformation of 1560. More on that later. Is anyone going to read this?
