  • Favorite Thing: Here is a web map for you to view the centre of Glasgow - this covers most of it.

Zoom out to see the West End, Zoom in for Street names etc.

    http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=260000.95476465&Y=665000.295311887&width=700&height=400&client=public&gride=259174.95476465&gridn=665740.295311887&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&scale=50000&in.x=8&in.y=7

Just copy and paste the above, to view a map.

    Fondest Memory: Architecture!

This photo is of Buchanan Street, looking South. Gordon Street is to the right of camera, walk down this to reach Central Station.

  • Favorite Thing: I love the old builings with their stone columns, ornate carvings and warm sandstone, - Why can't modern buildings be like this?????

This picture shows a wonderful example, I think it is on Bothwell Street, or close by, heading west from Central Station. As you can see, the ground level is now a supermarket (Marks & Spencer).

Fondest Memory: I got some funny loks from locals as I took this photo!

Everyone is just so used to this streetscape they ignore this beauty. But this, for me, is Glasgow.

  • The Old Exchange - Now A Bookshop &
  • Cafe
  • by scotlandscotour

  • Favorite Thing: Oh, look at this!

This is Glasgow. The picture is of the Old Exchange, now a Bookshop (with a cafe - thankfully) ... oh so civilised. You might think I exagerate, but there are so few places like this in Scotland (UK?) and so many beautiful old buildings are left to rot, my heart warms every time I see this.

Fondest Memory: Explore this area, between Central Station and the Gallery of Modern Art, ... Buchanan Street, Queen Street .... some lovely street cafes, and George Square is just 2 minutes away. Conveniently placed between the train and coach stations, and a great area to hang out.

walk/explore: The M8 Motorway Cutting Glasgow In Two

  • Crossing the M8 Motorway in Glasgow
  • by scotlandscotour
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Favorite Thing: A kind of 'warning' and 'transportation' tip:

As you can see from my photograph, and the map (website below), the motorway cuts through Glasgow.

    Map:
    http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=260000.95476465&Y=665000.295311887&width=700&height=400&client=public&gride=259174.95476465&gridn=665740.295311887&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&scale=50000&in.x=8&in.y=7

The best way to explore Glasgow is on foot but obviously you can only cross the motorway in a few places, and it is noisy / unpleasant.

Driving into Glasgow is easy off-peak but rush hour congestion is commonplace, and parking is expensive. Also, it can be intimidating being on a 6 lane highway, not knowing if your exit is left or right.

Tip: Avoid the M8. Leave your car out.

Fondest Memory: That drunk man lunging at me with a bottle ... no wait, thats not fair on Glasgow, ... the free museums (I was like a child in a sweet shop) ... the Youth Hostel being an hotel and friendly and cheap, ... shopping for wedding clothes ... really good shops in beautiful arcades (no, not Enochs!!!) ... the Film Theatre, ... Sushi, ... and the airport - my gateway to the world.

The drunk, by the way, missed my head, smashing the bottle into the wall behind. But that happens anywhere, and hey, he missed! Other cities it'd be a gun. Glasgow is cool.

perhaps you could do a similar count of one tip wonders that are negative and give some balance to your writing. you appear to have a personel vendetta which hardly does justice to your writing

you will be pleased to know decree has been served against Todd at bluesky,so he better have circaŁ40.000 in unpaid rent by thursday? It also proves the root problem of the situation.

You should google bluesky thief to see how correct your comments on this hostel are but the other ones in the street are super and members of www.hostel-scotland.co.uk so do not damage the good ones with your sweeping statements
