Sea Sun and Silence

I discovered this place by chance...stopping the night bus between Cairo and Sharm along the red sea coast. It was about five in the morning and the day was growing up. I had seen "BASATA" as a kabalistic word on my roadmap and thought, "yes, this sounds good". Here is a postcard-like picture (usually i don't like postcards) of it. It's an ecolodge owned by a german woman married to an egyptian. No music, no disco, no night clubs... just sea, sun, sand and silence.
The perfect place for a lonely monk like me...
I woke up the keeper. He gave me a small bamboo case and i fell on the "kilims" floor as a pilgrim who arrives in the sanctuary after a long journey....
when i woke up, the sun was rising high.
I shot the picture.
Eden is here, i thought.

Sacred Montains

In my back there was a rude and mysterious landscape. The one that could be shot for a movie like DUNE... The marvelous Sinai is an incredible desert made of rocks, sand, and red colours... How Beduins can live here ? ... It's a mistery.....but they do.
I remembered that the jewish tribes had turned around in that desert for years and years, after they escaped from Egypt,...
A Holy place. And I felt it. Physically..

Two angels come to me

The night was falling as i walked slowly to the lodge, feeling the hot sand pouring under my naked feets... i sat at the low wooden altar on which the bread was supposed to be shared between the few members of our small community...
And suddenly i had an apparition : two angels, equally beautiful, equally blond with pale blue eyes, joconda smiles, slided from the darkness to the table. They saluted my companions and sat on each side of me...
I already managed to show them the joviality and the strenght of my spirit { :-)} . As we finished to communiate under the two species, they declared that they needed me to take care of them 'cause they wanted to sleep on the beach......So did we. And we watched the stars and the sky, and the peace of the universe came on us....

Negociation with the "Mother" Beduin

Few days later, Lucia (the Light), started a negociation with a beduin woman for jewelry. The discussion did last hours... Lucia was speaking fluent arabic...(She's born and live in Egypt ). In this country negociations are a social ritual. If you don't, you mean that you are not willing to get what you buy, and/or that you don't consider the seller. This is one of the many cultural gaps between oriental manners and occidentals. The "Mother" beduin finally accepted to sell two silver rings with red coral for a good price...when she stand up, she took my hands and said i was a man with luck and patience... i did'nt say no. Men are often taught by the women...
But to which discovering was lucia inviting me ?
