An Important City in Music History I took an air plane to Munich from San Francisco, from there, I flew to Dusseldorf where a very close German friend, Andreas, picked me up.
That night, we had dinner at a local Gasthaus and drank and caught up all night. At around 1am, we met a Scottish bloke who introduced me to some very good single malt scotch whiskey.
At 2am, the bars were closed, but being with a local, we found another bar and were all toast by 6am.
3 hours later, we drove to Hamburg. When I arrived there, I first saw the port area and then found myself in the central part of the City near Reperbahn.
We met up with Mark Burgess, a singer/bass guitarist for my favorite band, The Chameleons, met his wife and many of his friends from Manchester who flew to Hamburg to watch Manchester City play a Hamburg team in a friendly goodwill game.
There is an awe upon walking into a European Football field. It's very romantic hearing all the songs in the crowds. It's emotionally uplifting and has really made me a big fan of soccer. |
| | Scattered Recollections of Hamburg I wish I could have had more time here, in this city where Brahms and Mendellsohn were born.
Here I am with Andreas, who looks like Popeye in this picture. To the left sitting one row up who is slightly cropped out of here is Kiki.
I spent the majority of my time in Hamburg completely hammered. I recall going to Reperbahn to see where the Beatles first used to play at before they were famous.
Someone was selling a kiss for $5 on that fun, party of a busy street.
One odd, infamous tourist attraction is the 'Window Shopping Brothels.' Literally, instead of statue models, there are women who sell their sexual services in these walkways in reperbahn nearby bars and clubs.
Although it may seem seedy, it's actually a very fun place to be at night. I first heard Weezer's song "Island in the Sun" while I was in a bar in Hamburg.
While I was there, the final day found me and my friends walking about the Hamburg Streets while there was some kind of a cycling tournament going on. |
| | The Streets of Hamburg My biggest recollection of Hamburg was the beautiful, deep blue eyes of the women who lived there.
I also recall a cathedral that was destroyed by bombs in WW2 that was left in the destruction that damaged it. |
