Milan, a city of Style

by mydreamquest - last update: Nov 15, 2004

Arriving in Milan

Cathedral in front of the Galleria
I came to Milan from Innsbruck and was fascinated of the Italian style of driving. The highways (if I recall correctly, they're known as autostrades) have three lanes. A slow lane that seems to average around 60 km/hour; a middle lane 100km/hour; and a grand prix lane 140km/hour! You will reach a toll both entering Milan and I was given an electronic ticket which I never paid. Head to the City Centre to the Galleria area and here's where I took the picture of the lovely cathedral right across from the galleria.

The Galleria

The Galleria is a lovely shopping area where you will find many theatres, trendy clothing outlets, and places to eat excellent food or coffee. The coffee in Italy is remarkable. I was wired for two days just from a late out of a gas station.

Summer in Milan

Your mind will fry from the oppressive sun, a fire that burns aways your inhibitions, sense of time, and stress. I only spent 3-4 hours in Milan. I drove thru the difficult summer streets, luckily, most of Italy was out of the city on vacation. Finding parking was easy and once in the city centre, around the galleria, you discover immense cathedrals, trendy shopping, all the cappucino you could handle, and a long 5-6 hour drive north back to Chur, Switzerland.

Pros:"Great coffee, food, exciting energy"
Cons:"Streets difficult to drive in (be careful);"
In A Nutshell:"A city of great style, but just be careful if you drive into Milan. It's ok, just be a little more careful than normal."
