The Bridge of Sighs and other Venice, Italy Things to Do Tips

Located as part of the tour of the Doge in Venizia's San Marco Square, the bridge of sighs is called such because this particular bridge is covered and represented the bridge where prisoners had to cross prior to being locked up in the prison of the Doge.

Cassinova was once a prisoner here and actually escaped.

Atop from the Campanile, from over 300 feet (nearly 100 metres) you can get remarkable views of Venice. If possible, try to get atop this tower an hour prior to sunset. That way, you can take the best possible pictures.

To get atop, you must wait in line for about 10-20 minutes, pay around 8 Euro to get on an elevator to the top. From atop it will be crowded but the views are worthwhile. Be prepared to wait before being able to look over Venice from this structure.

The ventilation in the late summer, when I was there, was not great even late in the day. Have some water and make sure you've used the restroom prior to going on this because when you are ready to come back down, you will have to wait in line again to get on the elevator down.

Although this is worthwhile, it is not the most convenient attractoin.

For around 8 Euro per person, you can explore the Doge's Palace. Lots of interesting rooms in this once governmental building.

While inside, you will tour various rooms, one room that is filled with paintings that gigantic. My favorite room was a room that had maps of the world based on Marco Polo's travels. It was quite amazing.

You will also be able to see the prison where Cassinova was once imprisoned and you will be able to cross the bridge of sighs.

I guess if you are a chef, checking out Venice's Fish market would be fascinating. To me, it was just a fish market. It was nice seeing the daily life of venizian's shopping for fish and vegetables for dinner.
