"South Island, New Zeland." south island (physical feature ) by NZ_gurl

Well, where do I start. It was wonderful down South! We visited many old deserted mining towns from the 1800's and some of the buildings still exist today! We did a tour in our 4X4 Vechicle and went deep into the south. If you want to do this you may need to rent a 4X4 vechicle and get a group of people to go with you, because if you get stuck....its all over! We visited a few of the dams, such as Clyde and we also went to Queenstown. And you have to go on the Shootover Jet, that was amazing. Its a bit pricy, but for 2 adults and 1 Child, it was $145 NZ. So its not to bad. We camped each night for $20 NZ and had a great time! We also did a bit of tramping, but you need all the right gear. Dont do it unless you know what you are doing, the conditions can change pretty quickly in NZ!! You must go to Arrowtown, Queenstown, Mt.Cook, Fox Glacier, Franz Josef Glaicer and Clyde. These are must sees!! They are beautiful!! Like some people you can do it on Cycles (But it take alot longer) Or a motor-home, 4X4 like us (And go back country off the beaten track) Or just do it by normal road car.

Clyde.

This is a small town that had to move when the river was going to be flooded to make a hydro-lake. They have restored the old buildings so all the buildings are in stone. This is a beautiful little beautiful with only a 5 minute drive to the lookout of the Clyde dam. It is a great little tourist spot. It is just out of Alexandra. Here is a picture of when our group took over town!

Lake Wanaka.

This is Lake Wanaka. It is a truly amazing lake especially with the background, Mountains dropping straight down into a lake. There is a few lakefront cafes and lots of fun activites to take part in! There was even a car bus thing that drove into the water and turned into a boat then went around the lake for a while then drove back up the beach and back into the car!! We were hysterics when we saw it!!! P.S. See the man in the picture, I dont know who he is but he is wearing a Subaru cap. Isnt it funny how small this world is??
