Vacation from hell!

We went here on our first ever time to Hawaii based on a WEB search for lodging/condos on Oahu. The site that we found that offered what we were looking for, beach frontage, quiet and full kitchen. It showed many glorious pictures of white, sandy beaches. They talked about the solitude and the pristine, white, sandy beaches and this being an area filled with the highest number of "native Hawaiians" and that if you truly wanted the Hawaiian experience, this was the place to go.

When we got there, the "condo" was on beach frontage and was as pictured on line. What wasn't there was the nice sandy beaches pictured. The beaches were mostly lava flows. There was a tent, broken down car or some other method of shelter behind many of the bushes housing resident transients along the entire beach front for a mile in each direction from our condo. Each of these "residences" were protected by pit-bulls! The beaches were littered with trash as were the roadsides, and I'm not just talking about fast food wrappers. It was large household items, junk cars, etc.

Obvious high crime area as the condo was protected with 24 hour security cameras, locked access to the beach, bars on even the grocery store doors and quick stops with sliding teller bank drawers to pay cashier.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Lots of fast food restaurants!
  • Cons:Dirty beaches, transients camped along the entire shoreline with pit-bull protection, high crime rate
  • In a nutshell:Not the side of Oahu to see, Stay from Honolulu up the North shore!
