Silloth Seaside

I decided to visit Silloth whilst staying in Penrith. It's on the Smuggler's Coast (West coast of the Lake District) and easily accessible on the B5302 (off the M1 near Carlisle).

Why did I choose Silloth? A guide book suggested that you can see dolphins and that attracted me - I didn't see any when I was there but it was a little bit hazy.

What is there to do?

For me Silloth was perfect because it was almost deserted. There is a mile and a half promenade with benches overlooking the sea and to the left is West Beach which is lovely and sandy with the odd bit of pebble and shingle. It felt like the beach was all mine despite a few families/couples also being there!

Unfortunately, if you like the high life then Silloth isn't it - I couldn't even find a pub or cafe with outside seating or open come to think of it! I need the outdoor seating for Barney so was glad to have taken a picnic with me.

There was a closed funfair which I guess will open up for the summer holidays and there was a paddling pool with sandpit all enclosed off for young children which was fairly well occupied.

There are lots of green spaces in Silloth where some people were sunbathing as it was less windy than the beach, but for me it was heaven on the beach!

Pros and Cons
