There is a huge misconception about Bogotá. Before traveling to Bogotá I had researched what it would be like on many websites. The messages I had read made it seem as though Bogotá was a dangerous city, unsafe for travelers. It couldn't be more untrue. Bogotá is a beautiful, clean and cosmopolitan city.
While in Bogota, the focus of the trip was based around their cuisine. I was so amazed at all the different types of restaurants they had. They ranged very traditional to being extremely sophisticated and modern. Some of the dishes I truly favored were: posta negra, which is a short ribs with a sugar syrup (melado), arepas with hogao (tomato and onion sauce),or arepa con quesito, papa criolloa (little potatoes), sobrebarriga (braised beef), and patacon (smashed and fried plantains). Another amazing part of Colombia were the juices. They were so fresh. Some included juices made from guanabana, the coolest looking fruit, lulo and feijoa.
The city is nestled in the gorgeous and lush Andes Mountains. The people were some of the most beautiful and friendliest that I have ever met. They were extremely helpful and kind. Bogota is also a city of amazing architecture. The design of the apartment buildings and restaurants was refreshing.
- Pros:The people, food, nightlife and quick flight.
- Cons:If traveling outside of Bogota, travel by plane only.
- In a nutshell:Bogota is a city of beauty and vitality one wouldn't want to miss!
