Providence .... The Renaissance City

by Cruefan - last update: Mar 22, 2005

Capital Of Rhode Island

Providence Skyline
Providence is the capital of Rhode Island, hence the largest city in the state. Providence was in a huge down swing in the late 70's and 80's and I can verify this because back in the day when I was a young metalhead I used to go to Providence to see Motley Crue, Ozzy, Metalica, Tesla, and AC/DC and the place was really run down and dirty.

But that changed in the 90's when Providence put alot of money into inproving downtown. Now Providence is much improved with many new restaurants, a huge shopping mall and waterfront park.

Providence is also a college town and hosts such schools as Brown University, Providence College, Johnson and Wales, Rhode Island College, and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

Walking around Providence is relativly safe during the day. At night however downtown has tons of bars and clubs and at 2AM when they let out there is fighting and assorted mayhem on a regular basis. But the Police are usually around in force to calm the natives.

That's enough intro.. Lets get to the good stuff.

Admission is free, but skating is not at the re-named "Bank of America" Skating Center.

Is it really called the Tonya Harding rink? Does anyone whack you on the knee as you leave it?
