Roosevelt Hotel New York: The Roosevelt Hotel Roosevelt Hotel New York Review
Show Prices

The Roosevelt is a luxury hotel that comprises an entire block in midtown manhattan, it is conveniently located near Grand Central Terminal (it even used to have its private underground passage to GCT at one point). It opened in 1924 and is named in honour of President Theodore Roosevelt.

The hotel was renovated recently. Standard rooms are fairly spacious in Manhattan terms.

Unique Qualities: The atmosphere here is quite unique. With roughly a 1000 rooms and its huge ballroom this is a big, classy hotel, but it is also a little dark, and sort of intimate.
This must have been one of THE hotels in Manhattan during the heyday of the railroad, and I think it still has a name to live up to. Believe it or not, on one night there was a reception in the lobby and on our way out we (litterally) ran into Elton John :D

As for value for money, this is a good but pricey hotel. For instance, the prices for breakfast/lunch/dinner are way too high in my opinion, and don't even think about using the phone in your room for anything other than a local call - what they charge is just ludicrous. On the plus side, there's a really good deli with a buffet next door, and the location (with Grand Central around the corner) is hard to beat. The area is clean and safe, and even rather quiet at night (in midtown Manhattan terms, that is). So if you're not on a budget, this would be an excellent family hotel.
