A favorite city | An old post card I found in an antique shop. |
I loved Charleston during my visit there in the month of May. The fragrance of Confederate jasmine, the history, the restaurants, the charm, the people, the customs. |
| | I was introduced to such unknown delicacies as she-crab soup; to such terms as low country and sweet grass; and to such sights as getting up early to watch the sun come up over Battery Park. We did a lot of walking, including taking a walking tour with a charming lady who introduced us to many of the historical buildings (and courtyards) as well as interesting tidbits of local history. The tour ended with tea at her place. We also poked around in galleries, bookshops and antique stores, and even took a rickshaw ride one evening when we were running late for a dinner reservation. Our rented car stayed parked during our four days in Charleston. I would love to go back -- it's just that there are so many other places I haven't seen yet. It's a real dilemma, but I do plan to return to historic and lovely Charleston. |
