Favorite Thing: The Las Vegas Talk forum!! The best possible advice I can give to anyone going to Las Vegas is to visit my favorite and the busiest LV forum on the Internet. I've been a member since way back when I was planning my first trip, and while its come a long way technologically, some of the same people are still there. In fact I attended a LVTalk meet at Luxor the last time I was in town, and met one woman I'd been in touch with for years. There are literally hundred of questions asked and answered per week about every facet of Las Vegas by both locals and fanatics. Whenever I've been planning a trip to LV you could find me on the forum daily. Oh, the address is www.lasvegastalk.com Another excellent Internet site is www.lvol.com (Las Vegas On Line) It has reviews of all the hotels and shows.

Favorite Thing: The rates for luxury hotels in Las Vegas are less probably than anywhere in the world because the room rates are subsidized by gambling. It is extremely easy to find a very nice hotel room on The Strip for under $80 US a night, especially during the week, shopping and booking through the Internet. On my last trip last May I stayed on The Strip at Barbary Coast for three nights at $60 per night, through the vegas.com Web site, and then at plusher Treasure Island at $75 per night for two nights through a special on the hotel's Web site. Rates jump dramatically on weekends in LV, so I decided to move downtown, partly for the experience, and was able to book The Plaza for Friday and Saturday nights for only $45.90 plus tax a night through HotelKingdom.com after comparing prices on travelaxe.com.
Fondest Memory: I love staying at different hotels in Las Vegas, as they all give different experiences. Since one of LV's attractions is that I can get more for my money (even with a modest daily gambling budget) I enjoy the shopping around. On all my trips I've spent the weekdays in a more upscale hotel and then downgraded for the weekend to get the most for my money. Ie, from Luxor to Gold Coast; The Orleans to Sahara; Barbary Coast and Treasure Island, to the Plaza downtown. To compare prices of hotels at various Internet booking sites (and the hotel itself) use travelaxe.com. It takes awhile, but it was part of my obsessing. I've never yet had any problem booking on-line, just print out confirmations (though I've never even been asked for these.) I don't think some of the top hotels, like Bellagio, are available (it probably doesn't discount rooms). If you plan to gamble for comps, book directly through the hotel.

Favorite Thing: One of my favorite things is just to walk up and down the strip at night admiring the beautiful (if gaudy) neon art created by the signs of all the big casinos. Sometimes I even enjoy the older casinos more than the new ones, as impressive as they are.
Fondest Memory: One night I stopped outside the Stardust and sat down to rest and became mesmerized by the water fountains that were basically spitting streams of water into each other, colored bright red, blue and green by lights. At one point a family with several children, also fascinated by the flying water, joined me. It was a pleasant and unexpected interlude, the kind that stands out in memory for no special reason .

Favorite Thing: Those walkways across the Strip are feet savers and timesavers! And they are building more all the time. Also take advantage of escalators, elevators, people movers every chance you get. It's importand to conserve energy whenever possible because you will be expending plenty of it.

Favorite Thing: If you are a nongambler who would just like to get in on the Las Vegas experience a little or, like me, enjoy "gambling" but don't have a lot of money to lose, the important thing is to decide ahead of time how much money you are willing to lose, and stop there. Just consider it part of your recreation budget. I'm a very low roller, and usually play 5c or 25c video poker -- though some of the new "penny" slot machines are fun. (Believe me, you end up putting more than pennies in.) The trick is I budget $20 to $25 per day (it could be even less, or considerably more, especially if you like blackjack or real poker). Sometimes people will give me money to gamble with in LV, and once I double $20 playing on a stud poker machine and was able to return $40. Gambling is only one of many things there is to do in LV, but having won my first poker hand as a nine-year-old, I've always enjoyed it. But I've never gambled what I wasn't ready or even expecting to lose. I also have a video poker game (zamzone.com) on my computer, which is not only fun to play but teaches you the way to play to get the best odds.
Fondest Memory: My fondest gambling moments, are of course the times I've won -- coming out $25 or even $10 ahead while you are playing nickel video poker is pretty darn exciting.
