I had to go to Tucson on business and luckily I had the foresight to spend the weekend there. The temperature was perfect - 75 during the day, 30's at night. Crystal clear blue skies. I had been to Arizona several times, but never as far south as Tucson. The city itself is easy to get around if you are driving. I much prefer it over Phoenix.
I only had about 2 days to myself so I took advantage of the nice weather to explore the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Mt. Lemmon and the Biosphere. I would recommend the first two but not really the Biosphere unless you're into that sort of thing. |
| | If you visit the Desert Museum, take the long way back to Tucson. Hang a left from the museum exit and head north until you see Golden Gates Road on the right. It's not paved, but it's not too bad if you're feeling adventurous. The scenery was pure desert. |
The other great place to visit is Mt. Lemmon. Fortunately I was able to visit before the big fires destroyed many homes there. It's a 30 mile drive up the mountain in which you see several different types of landscapes. From the cactus-laden slopes of the bottom to the huge pines and snow at the top, it's a spectacular drive. | | | Unique rock formations on Mt. Lemmon |
