Santa Catalina Island

Santa Catalina Island or Catalina Island as it's called more commonly, is a few miles off the coast of Southern California.
Only way to get there is by boat or by aircraft. There are several ferries from the mainland that go to the Island several times a day, year round. I've been there twice; in 1993 on as part of a four-day cruise originating in San Pedro, and in 1999, by ferry from Long Beach.
I like the compactness and serenity of the island. It is quiet and peaceful and there are ample things to do there for a day.
People dive in the harbor and nearby the island at the undersea gardens. The "Glass Bottom Boats" used to have tours from Avalon, but I believe those may be discontinued.
One can get around the Island by walking, renting a bike or golf cart.
There are automobiles on the Island, but they are few, most people that live there walk or use their golf carts to get around, but one must be careful for traffic! It does exist!
The two big attractions are the huge round casino, which is now a restaurant and museum, and the Wrigley Gardens, placed there by Wm. Wrigley.
