Canal Grande: Canal Grande

The beautiful view from Rialto bridge....
Canal Grande writhes across the all town. It is about 4 km longe and 50 m wide. This is the most importand "street" in Venice. You can take a vaporetto (water`s tram) or a gondola and make the tour on this canal and see many great old palaces on the canalsides. They are beautiful decorated. In the night the all buildings are lighted up.

Symbol of Venice
Even people who have never been to Venice know gondola very well. Gondolas was in Venice as early as XI century. 1562 ordered to paint gondolas only black. During festivities they are decorate with flowers. This must be a very great experience sail with a gondola. And you can ask the gondolier that he sing some italian songs. But this pleasure is expensive - above 60-100 Euro.

Symbol of Venice.

On the San Marco Square are the Basilica di San Marco and St. Marco Bell Tower - Campanilla. The Bell Tower is 99 m high and this is the reconstruction of the Campanilla wich was down in 1902. You can hear the suond of the bell called the "marangona". And of cours you can see great panorama of Venice from the tower. When the weather is sunny you can see too far away Alps. And you don`t must climb, there in tower is a lift :)

Bridges: Bridge of the Sighs

Ponte di Sospiri - 1602

This is a little bridge over a canal. There are two corridors between the Palace of Justice ( in The Doge`s Palace - Palazzo Ducale) and prison Prigioni Nuove. It`s told that it could be heard the sights of the prisoners when they passed the bridge.... But I like more the another explanation - this name is from the sights of enamoureds.

This is typical view in Venice, becouse this is the city on the water. The most of Venetian have the private boats.
Many lovely canals make that the town is so romantic and unique. I think - this must be great to life here, and from the window to look every day gondolas on canal.

One of the little streets in Venice, not far of San Marco. You can buy here on the street hand-bags, kerchiefs, watchs....... and many more....

The monument of Carlo Goldoni - the venetian writer - on Campo San Bartolomeo.
This is too very nice place for rest in a cafe garden. In centrum there are every time many tourists and.... pigeons. One pigeon perch just when my friend make this foto on head of Goldoni!!!! :)
When you are in Venice you must taste delicious venetian ice cream - gellatti!!
