OLD TOWN EDINBURGH

Lower Royal Mile - Christmas Shop
High Street is in Old Town Edinburgh – my absolute favourite place on earth!
If you like to explore in detail take an entire day and spend it working your way up the Royal Mile ending at the Castle.
At the bottom of the street is the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The Palace is now the occasional residence of the Queen when she and the Royal Family visit Edinburgh. From what I gather, she likes the place and goes there a lot. I’ve never seen her nor has she ever requested my presense for tea so I don’t believe she’s there very often. Ahem…right. Okay seriously, the Palace is open to the public and you can visit the State apartments and the historical apartments. Mary, Queen of Scots, spent the six years of her reign at Holyroodhouse, they (whoever they are) say that it was a tragic time, however I know very little of her history so I can’t go into any depth whats-so-ever.
Now, lets carry on up the hill up the ancient cobble stone streets.

On one street you will find hostels, shops, pubs, restaurants...everything you could want. If you only have ONE day in Edinburgh - don't miss the Royal Mile.

New Town Edinburgh

Walk along Princes street and you will find book shops, gift shops, clothing stores and fast food restaurants.
You also will have a great view of Edinburgh Castle!
Don't forget, Rose Street runs parallel with Princes street and is just one (or two?) streets over. Easy to find!

Pros:"Have one day? Spend it on the Royal Mile! Great Taste of Edinburgh on one street."
Cons:"Venture off the street for cheaper gifts to bring home as prices are higher here."

LoL...my high school was just behind G Bobby, and we used to go to a club (the Place) where Finnegans is now!

Nice story about Bobby and you are right, a crawl up the Royal Mile is probably more productive that a crawl up Rose Street.

Did you ever get those chippies?

Just a little note applicator tampons are available from all supermarkets in the city. The really big ones are out of town, but most have smaller branches, try Scotmid along Bridges.
