Salisbury, Wiltshire - neglected by tourists! Salisbury, in Wiltshire, founded in 1227 is a wonderful little city of 40 thousand people. Visit for a day excursion from London or better yet use this lovely city as your homebase while sightseeing around the town and surrounding area eg. Stonehenge. |
| | Explored in a day? Stay and relax a while! Salisbury can be explored in a day, but there is so much to see and do around Salisbury that I would recommend that you spend a couple of nights or longer, and rent a car to explore around the area.
One of the best parts about Salibury is the lack of other tourists! ;-) |
| | Avon calling! Salisbury is situated on the banks of the River Avon. The ducks in the river wear far too much lipstick and eye liner. Sorry...couldn't help myself.
Although the city is best known for its proximity to Stonehenge and for Salisbury cathedral it really is a gem of a little city which offers tourists something different than the hustle and bustle of London or bigger cities. Its simply charming!
The town retains some lovely medieval streets which is wonderful and the 15th century Poultry Cross is worth a visit.
Other things to do are: Market days on Tuesdays and Saturdays, guided walking tours, Cathdral walks and ghost walks.
If you're looking for a lovely little city to relax in, feel safe in, use as a home base for visiting Stonehenge...this is the place for you. |
