Pisa, one of the well known cities of the Tuscan region is about an hour's journey from Florence and about 2 hours from Rome or Venice. Its a heart warming small city which is well known for its leaning tower. The slanting tower is indeed a marvel and you get a good perception of the wonder when you approach it by foot. The recently renovated building has been open to tourists as of last year and now tourists and visitors are allowed to go to the top. The trains to Pisa arrive at the Pisa Centrale which has locker facilities for people with luggage (3 Euros per day). The station also has a few fastfood restaurants to pick up a bite before going into the city to explore. The Pisa international airport is also not very far from the city and it has regular connections to other parts of Italy. The trains from Florence actually terminates at the Pisa Airport station and so if you want to see the Leaning Tower, you would have to get off at Pisa Centrale. |
