One of the most visited destinations in Italy, like Rome, is Venice. This vivacious little city is surrounded by water on almost all sides making it an island almost. Its also a city where the tourists might be equal or greater than the residents on a given day. Venice has something for everyone, whether its sightseeing, shopping, relaxing, etc. The first stop in Venice for anyone is pretty much the St. Marks Square. This is one place which gets very crowded throughout the day as tourists and travelers from all over the world pour in here. |
| | Venice is best explored by foot. It is an adventure by itself to find the way from the train station to St. Marks Square. You will have to navigate through narrow alleys crossing the tiny bridges over the canals every now and then and generally hoping and praying that you are going in the right direction. That is what makes it fun as every time you think that you have found the right path, you end up in an alley only to backtrack. Walking through these narrow alleys really gives one a very good perspective of what Venice is all about. By walking, you also get the opportunity to stop every now and then, popping into the souvenir shops to browse the various collection of porcelain items or stopping by the fast food joints to grab a bite. |
