Perplexing Paris !!!

by GK2005 - last update: Mar 2, 2004

Paris, is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, yet its also very perplexing and tantalizing. Navigating through Paris using the public transportation is like solving a puzzle or embarking on an unique adventure. Even though, the sites are well marked in English, the french are definitely not that helpful towards visitors who ask them questions in English and not french for any guidance.

There are so many sights to see and so many things to do in Paris, its impossible to rush through the city in a day or two. In order to enjoy this romantic city, one has to really take it slow. The Paris metro is one of the most comprehensive intracity rail network anywhere in the world and one can visit any attraction in Paris using this network.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower certainly stands out in Paris and is visible from most parts of Paris due to its height. At night, the Tower is very well lit and its indeed stunning to look at. There are two levels at Eiffel Tower, the lowel level containing shops, restaurants and a post office. The Upper Level provides a breathtaking view of Paris from all directions.

The journey from the ground to the Tower deck takes about 10-12 minutes with a stop at the Lower Level. In summer, it gets very very crowded and so give yourself sufficient time to enjoy the Eiffel Tower.

Great start! For the parisians, just start your questions in french, even minimal, than smile & ask "do you speak english, please?", and than they'll speak english to you happily. See, you showed that you made an effort in french 1st...
