Köln skyline, seen from across the river Rhine

A nice German gem

The city of Köln (or Cologne in English) is a nice medium sized city in the west of Germany. And when I say west, I mean that it is rather close to the Dutch and Belgium border.

Most famous feature of the city is the "Dom" the cathedral of Köln, which is an unmistakable point of reference on the Köln skyline.

Because the city centre, which lies on the banks of the river Rhine (Rhein in German), is rather compact, historic buildings and places are mingled with modern shops and ofices, creating a very relaxed and welcome atmosphere.

The central tower in the picture above is that of the Great St. Martin's Church, whereas the tower to the left, a bit further away, belongs to the city hall.

I added a nice nightshot of the area as well (this picture is not my own), which stresses the beauty of the unique skyline even more. In the back you can see the TV tower of Köln.

Beautiful pictures of the Dom. Cologne is a wonderful city.
