Barcelona - Go and fall in love!

Gaudí chimneys on Casa Milà
We visited Barcelona in September 2002 and stayed for 4 nights. Make sure that you have enough time to see the things you want when visiting this great city. And don't expect to see it all in one visit. There simply is too much to see here.

I still have to meet the first person that has visited Barcelona and has not fallen in love with this city. Without a doubt this is the greatest place (with people in it) that I have visited so far. Great architecture, nice people, superb food, a relaxed atmosphere, perfect shopping, a nice climate; Barcelona has it all. And somehow, everybody seems to agree on this. Perhaps this is the reason why Barcelona ranks second (after Paris) worldwide in numbers of visitors per year.
Casa Batlló created by Gaudí
Who says Barcelona says Antonio Gaudí. This architect is responsible for some of the greatest and most bizarre architecture you will ever experience. Because most people visit the many Gaudí-related highlights, you will come across many very obvious tips. Nevertheless, you will find some of these standard tips on my pages as well, simply because all this Gaudí stuff is just awesome. Well, just have a look at the tips and judge for yourself if they are helpful.

Three things before anything else:

Nothing beats an afternoon in Parque Güell.

Barcelona is the capital of Catalunya, so you will see and hear a lot of Catalan (next to Spanish). To me Catalan looked a bit like a mix of Spanish and French.

Have Tapas in one of the Lizzaran Tapasbars (cheap and great). Lizzaran is a basque tapasbar (Actually they serve pinxtos, which are the basque (smaller) version of tapas, often served on a stick and on a small slice of bread). See my Lizzaran and Txapela restaurant tips for more info on tapas/pinxtos.
