What can I say? Sevilla definitely ended up in my worldwide city top 3. If not only for the attractions, then at least for the superb atmosphere that the city radiates. I can imagine myself living here and having a great time.
Why should you go to Sevilla?
First of all because of the gothic cathedral, the largest gothic building in the world. Next to that visit la Giralda. This bell tower that stands next to the cathedral is an attraction on its own, and also the most important landmark of the city. And what do you think of the royal Alcazar of Sevilla? The Alcazar + gardens were (((almost))) as impressive to me as the Alhambra in Granada and for me the absolute tourist highlight of a visit to Sevilla.
Visit also the Plaza de Espana, stroll along the river Guadalquivir, see the Torro del Oro on the riverbank and visit Casa de Pilatos. Sevilla is also a great place for people who love to shop. And don't forget to eat out as much as you can when in Sevilla. The food is great. Sevilla is by many people seen as the birthplace of Tapas, so should I say more?
An absolute must when going to Sevilla is to visit the LIZARRAN tapasbar (this also applies to other cities like Barcelona, where Lizarran can be found). See also my Lizarran tip.
Finally, when in Sevilla, you might consider visiting Italica, just north of Sevilla. Italica was one of the most important Roman settlements outside of Italy. The arena here is the largest one of the Roman empire, apart from the Colosseum in Rome.
