The first thing that comes in mind when hearing the name "Hiroshima" is of course the atomic bomb that was dropped on the city on 6 August 1945. But although the Peace Memorial Park is the place every visitor goes to, Hiroshima is far from being a depressive place. On the contrary, it has become a thriving new city whose optimistic inhabitants seldom mention the bomb. Therefore it's a pity that obviously most tourist groups don't go any further than the A-Bomb Dome as Hiroshima has a lot more to offer: beautiful and peaceful parks, the impressive Castle or the busy shopping arcade, for example. For us, it was the very first destination in Japan, and it was a good choice. We were amazed to read that Hiroshima has more than a million inhabitants, to us it seemed smaller, the atmosphere was relaxed and it's easy to navigate the city on foot or by streetcar. |

RoseAmano Sun Apr 19, 2009 05:48 UTC There were very useful comments for us, so we are going to Hiroshima end of this month. Thank you for your great tips! I prefer Hiroshima's "Okonomi-yaki" to Osaka's. Especially "Otafuku" sause flavour is best one. | snuggie Fri Nov 23, 2007 02:15 UTC great page on Hiroshima.I was hoping to visit it soon.Take care :D | Carmanah Tue Oct 24, 2006 18:08 UTC Thanks for sharing your experiences in Hiroshima.
