Soaring, Tumbling, Freewheeling

Please indulge me as I borrow these three "magic words" from Aladdin's "A Whole New World" (a song which became quite popular in the early 90s), to give my take on Travel. Well, whether on a carpet ride or something else, travel does give one an exhilarating feeling, much like being above the clouds!
up, up and away!
I have loved travel for as long I can remember, probably even before I actually went on trips myself. My childhood memories were of taking almost day-long trips by land to Bicol (south of Manila), my father's home province. I remember sitting by the window and marvelling at how each passing scenery looked like postcards shuffling in the wind, as our bus sped by. In my teenage years, I was introduced to the school library's collection of Insight Guides -- its pages upon pages of "filling" text and breathtaking photos nurtured my desire to visit distant lands someday.
My travel resume is not exactly filled to the brim, just like that of most of you. But where armchair travelling is concerned, I think I have covered more miles than I could ever have in this lifetime. I definitely eat, breathe and even dream travel. I am drawn to travel anthology books especially the works of Frances Mayes (A Year in the World, Bella Tuscany & Under The Tuscan Sun) and partial to films that have a good measure of travel "magic" in them like Under The Tuscan Sun (yes, the movie version) and a Vietnamese film called Three Seasons, among others. I like the sumptuous concoction of words and the vivid rendition of images. Hmmm, these writers and filmmakers have such enviable jobs!

Well, I share with you my humble pages with the giddiness of a person just back from a vacation and the nurtured spirit of a frustrated travel writer (thank you VT). My gratitude likewise goes out to all whose pages have enriched my travel life as well.
