A reborn city

by baronedivandastad - last update: Apr 6, 2005

Skyscrapers in contrast with the Kuwait towers.
Kuwait City has been reborn. Anyone coming here before the second Gulf war (when the US removed Saddam Hussein from Iraq) would have found a sad and rather depressed city where all the people had escape plans in case the nuthead decides to attack again. Now it's a different story: skyscrapers are rising like mushrooms in wet wood, and the mood of the people is definitely that of a country that's finally free and can express its potential. It will be interesting to see what happens here in the next 5-10 years, as the city really has a potential of becoming another Dubai or Bahrein. In the meantime, it's a peaceful, rather eventless place which is ideal for business and little more.

The porters in Kuwait airport are real pain. Even in the car park they will help you load your car by leading you to believe they just want the trolley back, but they then try and sting you for a large tip.
