Turkey....A Delight!

by suvanki - last update: Apr 14, 2006

An intro to my Turkey....

Nemrut Dag, East Turkey
I first discovered Turkey by accident, I was due to visit China, but unfortunately, due to the tragedy of Tiannamen Square, my holiday was cancelled by the Foreign Office.
In need of a holiday, my travel agent suggested Turkey. I didn't know much about this country, but on being shown a picture of Olu Deniz, I immediately booked. This was the beginning of a long love affair with this fascinating country.

Since 1989, I've visited Turkey 11 times. I'm eagerly awaiting my next visit!

My favourite city is Istanbul, a vibrant place with lots to offer. I've particularly enjoyed visiting in January (twice)

1993 was my favourite trip..one of the happiest times of my life..I saw so much of the country, visiting places where I was often the only foreigner, (Harran and Hopa). Just jumping on buses to where I fancied. Saw some stunning sights, and met some amazing people.

I lived in Icmeler and Marmaris, working as a holiday rep for a short while in 1999, which gave me a different view of the country, and I got to see a few places that I hadn't seen on my previous travels (Ephesus/Pamukkale/Kusadasi/Turunc/Icmeler) as well as revisiting some familiar sights (Dalyan/Marmaris/Fethiye/Hisaronu)

Over the years, I've taken lots of photos, during my visits to Turkey - but these were in pre digital or cd times. I still haven't got a scanner, but I'm gradually getting my negatives put onto cd. So I hope to share some of these with you soon.

The real reason he chose Ankara is because he always felt let down by Istanbu.. His powerbase always was Anatolia. Ankara was chosen partly because it had excellent rail links to Ist.
