Yannis and friends Clock Bar, Symi
The unique feature of this bar, is to spot the number of clocks! Some are obviously displayed, inside and out, but some are well hidden. Check the flooring, around the bar, and the paintings! You'll probably not find them all!
The owner, Yannis, is a friendly, relaxed man, who is a professional musician. It is possible to hear his music, and buy his recordings . Read the newspaper articles about him and his music displayed on the walls.
Besides draught beer, served in chilled glasses, there is a wide range of local/ international spirits, cocktails, tea and coffee.
Snacks available.
Internet terminals, board games and books, are available, making this a pleasant place to spend a few hours at night, or to escape the daytime heat! (it's air conditioned!!)
Dress Code: Come as you are!
Address: Yialos
Directions: Off the harbour front, in the area behind , and to the left of the Helenikon restaurant, near the Vapori bar, just wander round and look for the clock(s) on display outside.

Glaros Bar, Chorio, Symi
Popular with young local males.
Recognised by motorbikes either parked up, or by their owners doing "wheelies" to impress the local females.
But, don't be put off if you don't fall into any of these categories.
Tables/chairs outside provide a place to enjoy a drink /ice cream/ peoplewatch.
Internet terminals inside, not all are always working.
Games Machines/pool tables inside.
Open in daytime too.
UPDATE ---- Just been informed that this bar has been re-decorated and the internet has been updated, so more efficient

Jean n Tonics, Chorio, Symi
Owned and hosted by Jean, an ex pat from England and Aston Villa supporter.
A pleasant bar, opens around 2100hrs, with Happy Hour. Air conditioned.
Popular meeting place for Symiphiles, and a smattering of locals.
The G&T's pack a mean punch! and there is draught beer. No food served.
Although quite small, there are 2 rooms and seating/steps outside.
Background music, or Sky Tv (when theres football on) provide entertainment, but the main attraction is chatting to old and new friends.
Paintings and cards by local artists are for sale and theres a collection tin for animal welfare on the island.
If you want to know anything about the island or where to find something, Jean is very helpful. She helped me find a hairdresser (see my must see tips) which was a highlight (!!)of my holiday, as my hair was bleached in her mothers kitchen.
UPDATE Just been informed that Jean is retiring on Dec 31st! Bet that will be One Hell of A Party!!!
2nd UPDATE - Just been informed that the bar has been taken over by a German couple, who were regulars here. Jean is still on the island working with the Symi council

Rainbow Bar, Symi
After climbing up the Kali Strata, this is a good place to cool down. Tables and chairs are set out opposite the bar and cafenion, with a mix of local men chatting and putting the world to rights, and holidaymakers and ex pats doing the same.
It's a nice spot to while away some time, people -watching and enjoying the view during the daytime, but after dark, its a good meeting place for pre -dinner drinks.
There are quite a few good tavernas nearby, and a couple of other bars. In the square behind is a kiosk and a card phone kiosk.
Dress Code: Come as you are!
Address: Chorio
Directions: Top of Kali Strata steps, near the square.
Taxis stop nearby at the end of the passageway next to Giorgios taverna.

To Klimo rooftop bar, waiting for sunset
On the last day of my 1st visit to Symi, I bumped into a friend I'd made, who was on his way to meet friends for a drink. We headed for a nearby rooftop bar..To Klimo (which wasn't open in 2003, my 2nd visit to Symi- but now under new management, so hopefully it will be open now) and enjoyed the sun going down over Symi, with a couple of cocktails, before "wobbling" back to Pedi.
My 2nd visit (2003) ,my favourite spot for enjoying a sundowner was the bar on the corner of the Kali Strata, as you turn right , before the final steep climb to the square. I can't remember its name, (it might be The Kali Strata Bar) but there's a great view over the harbour and beyond to the Turkish coast.
The bar owner had a diverse collection of cd's, often playing classical or jazz/ blues, and he made a mean freshly squeezed lemon drink.
A perfect way to enjoy the sunset! and a nice relaxing place to catch your breath after the first haul up the Kali Strata!
I've also enjoyed a sundowner or two in Yialos, although you don't get the same view, but its a great location for people/ boat watching!

Address: Chorio/Yialos
Directions: Just pick your nearest watering hole as the sun starts to fade!!
