Where the land ends and the sea begins...

Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca) is a stunning place to visit, with high cliffs dipping into the Atlantic Ocean below. It is the westernmost point not only of main land Portugal, but also of mainland Europe.
It is located in the municipiality of Sintra.
The town of Sintra is located about 18km away and is an attractive place to visit, with a handful of castles/palaces, which we had visited earlier in the day.
The Portuguese poet Luís de Camões is responsible for the oft quoted "where the land ends and the sea begins" (Portuguese: Onde a terra acaba e o mar começa) to describe Cabo da Roca.

We were lucky to arrive here to a deep blue sky, perfect for photographs of our own, and another VT group shot.
Antonio and Teresa had also brought along a few bottles of Portuguese wines, cherry liquors and port to make a toast! Needless to say, the bottles were soon emptied.

To commemorate your visit, you can buy a certificate from the Tourist Information office, which states that you visited the westernmost point of Europe

A very well done page with lots of information to take the most of the most western european place and great pics. Yes I was very relaxed with the fresh air of the ocean or the fresh air conditioning of the bus ;-)
