Paris VT Meet

As I was unable to get to Macedonia, this meet in Paris was my alternative to Euromeet 2011. Although the original planned meet was altered, I was looking forward to meeting up with 'old' friends from near and far, as well as putting faces to VT friends that I hadn't met in person. There were a few VTers and their guests that I didn't know too.

This was my 4th visit to Paris. My first two had been with friends during my Nurse training days back in the late 1970's, then in 1995 for a conference. I'd 'seen the sights', but for some reason hadn't fallen under Paris's Magical Spell. My reason for returning here was to meet up with my VT friends, and hopefully enjoy some 'off the beaten track' places, and discover 'The Magic of Paris'

Well, I'll probably get around to adding some tips about the places that I ate and drank and some of the 'Off the beaten track' places. I'm afraid that I still don't quite 'get Paris' - I can't put my finger on why not - perhaps I need to return by myself one day and really explore.

What I did in Paris

In the catacombs

Thursday 8th September I flew from Manchester to CDG with Gillybob - we arrived at our apartment early evening - alyf1961 (Alyson) and dila (Diana) were already settled in. Gilly had picked a great apartment for us all (again) Well stocked, a good place to relax, equidistance between 2 metro stations, and...... a great view of the Eiffel Tower!
So after quickly unpacking, we were out in search of food! We found a nice restaurant, where we enjoyed a tasty meal, and a good bottle of red wine!
Arriving back at the apartment, it was a nice surprise to see the Eiffel Tower illuminated.
Friday 9th September After a good nights sleep, and a breakfast of croissants and pain au chocolate, the four of us set off to the appointed meet up point - Square Rene Viviani.
It was the usual VT frenzy of hugs, kisses, Hand shaking/ back patting, taking of photos, meeting up with 'old' friends, those who we'd only known virtually, and some who I hadn't encountered before.

Gilly had gifts for us all - VT swag!!! Flip-Flops, T-Shirts, flags and even tattoes appeared from her bottomless pit of a bag.

Once we were assembled, pfsmalo led us to our picnic area - benches sheltered by overhanging trees.

After the picnic and group shots, Paul led us off to explore the neighbourhood - pointing out places and things that we might have missed without his 'local knowledge'

Great set of photos. I enjoyed the posts and pics all along the VT Paris meet way while sitting here in Malibu. See you in Bergamo next year. Hopefully with my whole family including one new son in law and one now so new SIL. Best, Karl

Wow, you take a lot of photos!! Why don't I ever notice you doing that? The photo of Gillian with the flag and the tower is really good--I think that's a sure nomination for "Flag photo of the year:.
