Well first of all, an apology...for some reason I've been 'awarded' a 5 for this page, how I don't know on the strength of a few skimpy tips ;-(
I'll try and do justice to this soon- in the meantime, if you have any questions about Nottinghamshire, please e-mail me, and I'll try to help.

Please check out my Edwinstowe page, for info and tips about the village, (Famous for Robin Hood- The Major Oak, where he and his Merry Band of Men were reputed to have hidden, and St Marys Church where Robin and Maid Marion were alleged to have married (It's the church I was married in too!) Sherwood Forest and surrounding areas.

I was born in the market town of Warsop, and moved to Edwinstowe when I was 7 years old.

My parents and family still live in Nottinghamshire, mainly in the Edwinstowe and the Mansfield area.

Nottinghamshire has plenty to offer. Besides the city of Nottingham, there are some interesting and historical villages and towns, countryside (agricultural and forests) stately homes, castles and parks.

I'm trying to check out some of the places that I've taken for granted all these years, and I'm also learning and re learning about the history etc of my home county.

Places to visit/Things to do

Although Nottinghamshire doesn't boast dramatic scenery such as the nearby Peak District, there are some pleasant views over sprawling farmland, especially towards the end of summer, when the vegetation changes to a rich golden colour. Also the greenery of Sherwood Forest, with walking/ cycling / driving opportunities.

Agriculture, Forestry and Coal Mining all contribute to the landscape and character of this county.

Away from Sherwood Forest, many of the villages are 'tourist free zones' and remain quite unchanged.

However, Nottinghamshire is stepping up a gear into the leisure and tourism market. Even Mansfield, (which has the dubious honour of being listed in 'crap towns of England vol 2' - apparently there was a protest by the local citizens that it hadn't been listed in volume 1!!) now has a glossy tourist brochure, with some elegant bistros, wine bars and museums.

Pros:"Plenty of unspoilt areas, history, gentle scenery"
Cons:"Some run down/neglected towns."
In A Nutshell:"More than Robin Hood!"

Nice page! Don't believe I ever visited this area, but it brings back great memories of a long ago trip 'round England. Great tips for each village and the youth hostel!

This is a very poor place. Expensive, dirty as the tables needed wiping, the crockery needs a good clean, and the service very poor. The manager obviously graduated from the Basil Fawlty school of catering. A miserable experience
