Beautiful Stones and other Rügen, Germany General Tips

Favorite Thing: Especially at the stony beach near the Kreidefelsen (Königsstuhl) but also at some other beaches of Rügen beautiful stones of all shapes and colours can be found. They can get very very heavy in your backpack when you have to carry them up the stairs through the woods to the parking place.

Favorite Thing: For the way back to Puttgarten from Kap Arkona I wouldn’t recommend the direct way but the coastline which brings you to the small, lovely old village Vitt where 30 inhabitants live. Vitt has a little port and old houses with the typical reed roof.

Favorite Thing: The Schmachter See in Binz is a very idyllic place. Here you can admire romantic sundowns or have a walk along the little lake. As it is a part of the national parc of Rügen it is not allowed to swim in the Schmachter See.

Favorite Thing: The wide sandy beach of the seaside resort Binz is in my eyes the most beautiful beach on the Island. With a length of 5km and clear white sand this beach is a nice place to be for the whole family. From the splendid Sea-Bridge you can start by boat to the Kreidefelsen.

Favorite Thing: Rügen is known for a special type of architecture called Bäderarchitektur. All the gorgeous old villas are dominated by wooden balconies, little corner towers, and some lovely wooden detailed decorations. This architecture reminds you of the art nouveau (Jugendstil) architecture and framework houses as well. Most houses were built at the beginning of the 20th century, several nice villas can be found in Binz and in Sellin.

Favorite Thing: A part of the 5km long building is now used for several museums. The “Eisenbahn- und Technikmuseum” presents some old trains, fire-engines, etc. and the historical museum gives you an insight in the rooms of the Prora-building and their former using.
