I have travelled to many countries in Europe. But, it is never enough to just visit-but, it gives a person some idea about a country or place. Europe is rich in history and culture-something that is not found in the USA. It is awesome to see some of the large buildings that date so far back in history. There are some structures in Rome that took centuries to complete. How unique it is that each country has carved out a little piece of history for itself and preserved it in many different ways.
By far one of the most interesting ways to see europe is by rail. This is the most economical way to get to see alot of countries for the price of a rail pass. In 1995, I purchased a 2 week railpass in the USA for about 450 US and set out on a journey to see as many countries and places that I could fit into my schedule. This included a trip to the World Expo in Lisbon, Portugal as well as a trip on the Eurostar.
Another way I found to travel great distances at a discount was to check the prices at EuropeByAir and then also, check the airline they use and do a search for that airlines website if they have one. This sometimes gives you the same or better fare-and you either get a ticket or e-ticket instead of the voucher that europebyair.com sends. The voucher still has to be redeemed with the airline. But, at any rate 99 USD is a bargain for some flights (long distance). Other (short flights) are less by booking with certain airlines directly.
- Pros:Rich culture and history.
- Cons:Some decadence that comes with age.
- In a nutshell:Massive historical experience.
