Innsbruck - Alpine Treasure

by dvideira - last update: May 12, 2004

Going on a trip you look for...

Inn River - Innsbruck
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Are you looking for art? Culture? Shopping? Winter sports? Summertime biking and hiking? A modern city? Narrow well preserved medieval streets? Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture? Colorful buildings? Nature? Breathtaking mountain views? All this charming mix together sounds nice? Then, Innsbruck is definitely the place you must visit.

And there are still more good news... This all-in-one city is compact and very easy to explore on foot. It lies embraced by the mountains and shares a valley with the Inn River.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Hungerburg Plateau - Innsbruck

And yet I was looking for more...

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

For most of you this may sound nonsense.... But believe me, I never saw snow...
My motto while visiting Innsbruck was " ohhh... imagine these mountains with snow...."
I've been to Europe twice and both times in summer time. Both unusual hot summers.... The first time in 1989, when I went to a London so sunny that is hard for me to believe in all I've always heard about London being a rainy foggy city.... Second time, last year, when even the highest mountains in Austria were in lack of snow.... And I went to Tirol just hoping there was some left for me to fulfil my dreams... Silly me, there was no single crystal flake for me to see...

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Denise I know what you mean by wishing to see snow in a place like Innsbruck :-) I think in those ski type resorts the mountains are meant to have tonnes and tonnes of snow! We are going to Alberta this winter and may spend a week in the Canadian Rockies!

D, loved your Innsbruck work...and I can't help laughing about the "no snow" situation...sounds like something that would happen to me!! Impossible not to be impressed with such architecture, huh..?

Hi Denise, Interesting pages, Innsbruck looks beautiful. Shame you didn`t see snow. Last March some friends came to visit me, one day we drove down to Austria, had a snowball fight, ate some struedel, and then drove home again! Strange day!
