furore - Praiano

furore

Furore

We can reach Furore by bus ( SITA line Positano-Amalfi ). Taking a bus in Praiano, as soon as it passes by La Praia, there comes a tunnel and about 2 kilometers later, there is a stop for Furore.

Furore, a natural fjord (such gorges in Italy are called ?orridi? or horrids) clings to the mountain between the sea.
Furore ia a good base for Amalfi Coast hikes - "Sentiero degli Dei".

furore - Praiano

furore

Furore

Furore was founded from the Romans and thanks to its geological conformation, this village was never invaded by the Saracen.

It is situated inside the homonymous fjord and there are two villages, one on the sea, the other on the mountains.

The two villages are connected by a long step, built during the Republic of Amalfi. It has been the only connection from the sea to the mountains, for a long time.

conca dei marini - grotta dello smeraldo - Praiano

conca dei marini - grotta dello smeraldo

Grotta dello Smeraldo - entrance

Depending on the day, I think this tip could be placed as a "tourist trap" instead of appearing here....

If there is too many people going there at the same time, I believe it will be a little anoying...

When I was about to leave, this full boat arrived and also two tourist buses...

I was lucky enough to arrive in between excursions, I think....
The effect of the light on the water inside the cave is really beautifull. But I'm not sure I would have stood in a big line and waited to see it....

grotta dello smeraldo - Praiano

grotta dello smeraldo

Conca dei Marini - Grotta dello Smeraldo

The cave is called "emerald", because the sun light comes in, throught a tunnel under the water (the tunnel connects the cave to the open sea), it makes the emerald colour.

You can reach to the "Grotta dello Smeraldo" by car or bus and also by boat. From La Praia or from Amalfi's harbour many boats go to and for the cave, each hour

I didn't take a pic inside the cave.
This one cames from Cooperativa Sant'Andrea
